J.A. Garcia American Legion May 1, update
A reminder that elections are coming up. The Nominating Committee has provided a recommended slate of Officers for the Post. If you are one of those Candidates that plan to fill one of the positions please be present on the day of the election. The Elections are scheduled for May 13 th during our regular monthly business meeting. It is critical that members that fill the Officers’ positions be able to contribute and participate in fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities. The Post will continue to be active and provide services for all Veterans and the community. Additionally, they must have time in their agenda to contribute to the Post.
The J.A. Garcia American Legion Post 172 attended the 15 th District American Legion Spring Convention in McAllen, TX. The convention was a great success. The post was well represented. Some of the members that attended (photo below) from left to right; Rita Saenz, Lilia Anzaldua, Yvonne Moya-Garza, Mary Martinez, Commander Juan Moya, Maria G. Topp, President Yolanda M. Garcia, Vice-Commander Tony Sanchez.
The Legion Post will be hosting the Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27 th at 8:30 AM at the American Legion Monument located in front of City Hall. The Ceremony will consist of a Flag Raising, Firing Party with 21 Gun Salute, Roll call, display of Military Equipment, Guest Speaker and will be followed with a Breakfast Reception at the Legion Hall. The event is open to the public and we are asking all the Community to join us in recognizing and paying our respects to all of those that paid the Ultimate Sacrifice during this Nation’s Conflicts. The event will take place a little earlier this year due to the heat that is expected during that time. More information
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Post will have the traditional Fish Fry again this Friday, April 26, 2019. Serving will begin at 5:00 p.m. and once again we will need help from all membership in areas including kitchen, serving, and cleaning the tables. We will be running a special on the Fish Plates this Friday, we will be selling 2×1 or 2 plates for the price of one. We will have karaoke and great music also. So we are asking the Community to come out and join us. We would like to express our appreciation to the members of the SAL
and the Auxiliary that helped in last week’s Fish Fry.
The next scheduled meeting is Monday, May 13, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. This will be a business and important meeting. Elections for our Post Officers will take place during this meeting.
