Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo Cover Girls selected
The 81st annual Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo held its Coronation for the 2021 Cover Girl this past weekend. There was a total of 37 contestants this year, a record number of entries and the winner is Eva Carolina Treviño.
First runner up is Idani Cantu from Rio Grande City, 2nd runner up is Kylie Sellman from Weslaco, 3rd runner up is Sadie Cash from Harlingen and 4th runner up is Ashlyn Martinez from Edinburg.
All of the contestants are Juniors in high school and are chosen by their FFA chapter or 4H club. They must have had a project at the stock show for at least two years. They are judged on beauty, poise, personally and speaking ability. They are also judged on their knowledge of the Livestock Show.
The competition started in 1949, ten years after the 1st stock show. The competition is called “Cover Girl” because the winner is featured on the following year’s program.
During her reign, the Cover Girl and her Court will participate in parades, fundraising events and TV and radio interviews to promote the show. They will also work every day at the show passing out awards and representing The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo. The event starts on Thursday, March 12 thru the 22nd at the show grounds in Mercedes.
