In effort to protect the health and safety of the people Hidalgo County County Judge Richard Cortez signed an emergency order for Hidalgo County residents to shelter at home beginning at 11:59 p.m. Thursday March 26, an action to contain the spread of the novel caronavirus.

The order is scheduled to end April 10.

Cortez reported 8 residents have tested positive and are at home recovering.
