J. A. Garcia American Legion Post 172 March 25, post update
Greetings my Comrades in Arms. I hope you are doing well during this time of uncertainty and that you and your loved ones are in good health. We all have been through hard times at one time or another. Let us embolden the Brotherhood that has brought us together as Legionaries and Veterans and look out for each other. Something you might consider doing is checking on a Buddy or a fellow Veteran by calling him and chatting for a while. We would like to inform everyone that our American Legion Post will be in compliance with the recent Declaration by Hidalgo County Officials and City Officials concerning the Coronavirus that gatherings of 10 or more people will be prohibited. Therefore we will not have the traditional Friday Night Fish Fry and Karaoke this Friday.
Our annual Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony is also cancelled. It was scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28th at 8:30 AM but would exceed the current limit of 10 persons or more at a gathering. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to all of our Vietnam Veterans. We also ask that you take a moment of silence for those Vietnam Warriors that paid the Ultimate Sacrifice during this Conflict. We lost several of our young Patriots as show by our JA Garcia American Legion Post Monument in front of City Hall. May they Rest in Peace.
The next scheduled meeting for the American Legion Post 172 will be announced as we move forward with the situation in hand.
The JA Garcia American Legion Post 172 in Mercedes, Texas is proud to introduce our Centennial Commemoration Pin to recognize it 100th birthday. The pins were designed and obtained through the efforts of two of our Legionaries, Tony Sanchez and Oswaldo Castaneda. A job well done. The pins will sell for $5 and can be purchased from Tony Sanchez at the American Legion Post.
