Mercedes schools closed until further notice
With the rise of COVID-19 reported cases in the Valley Mercedes ISD Superintendent Carolyn Mendiola has suspended normal district operations until further notice.
“Your MISD family is dedicated to doing the very best to serve the community under these very challenging conditions,” Mendiola said in a release.
The decision comes as the coronavirus has swept the nation by storm and 28 people have tested positive with the infection in the Valley.
According to the release, school officials are in contact with neighboring district leaders and will continue to make decisions regarding resuming classes and reopening the schools to students.
On Thursday Rio Grande CISD announced it was closing its schools for the remainder of the year in effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus and keep its students and community safe.
