Mercedes School District has suspended offering Grab and Go Meals and on-site instructional packet distribution to students until further notice.
The district passed out nearly 4,000 meals a day for one week after it began its effort to provide support to its students and the community.
The cancellation of the Grab and Go meal program comes days after city officials announced a female resident tested positive with the COVID-19 infection.
According to a release published on the district’s website, the program was stopped until further notice to limit the possible exposure of the virus to students and the community.
This decision also comes days after the district announced the closure of its schools until further notice.
The decision comes as the coronavirus has swept the nation by storm and 71 people in the Valley have tested positive.
