Heriberto Reynoso switched gears to design and create protective shields to help stop the spread of the caronavirus.
He halted work engineering Mars rovers for a student project he leads that introduces participants to space exploration and rocket science.
“I looked at enough of the crisis on Youtube and I decided to do something about it,” Reynoso said. “I began designing something, and soon enough I called the employees to drop in and now we are mass producing 2,000 masks per day.”
Reynoso said he began taking orders off the phone after he posted on Facebook he was creating protective masks.
In his first week of production he said he created 4,000 face shields and provided 1,000 of those to Doctor’s Hospital Renaissance.
“For those that absolutely need it (masks) to be assembled and ready to go, we are charging $1 extra,” Reynoso said. “Again, first-responders jump the line of orders. Families, please stay home unless absolutely necessary. I’m not accepting orders below 100. I’m going to focus next on ventilator design this week thanks to the initial shield orders.”
Reybotics is the premiere robotics manufacturing center of South Texas based in Mercedes and is a leader in curriculum delivery through technology.
Reybotics was founded by former NASA Engineer and Brownsville native Heriberto Reynoso.
Reybotics strives to motivate youth to pursue STEM career paths by educating and providing opportunities to K-12 and college students with a passion for engineering.
With the cancelation of public school until further notice Reynoso has kept his Reybobtics machines working around the clock producing the protective facial shields for the masses.
