The Beto Carr and Billy Schwarz Wall of Fame was officially opened to the public with a dedication ceremony and drive by parade.
The large mural of the two men was painted by Alejandro Gonzalez Hernandez. He is known in the art community as “Pop Art.”
The painting is located on the side of a wall next to Betos Boxing Gym located on Illinois Avenue.
Carr is a longtime boxing coach who has coached hundreds of boxers over the years. Some of his students have gone on to become World Champions.
“Billy was a minister and he did so much for the people of his church and the community,” Carr said about the late Schwarz. “Here is a man that contributed to the community in a big way, but was not looking for notoriety.
Many friends, family and students of Carr attended the dedication held on Saturday.
