Mercedes businessman Liborio Hinojosa passes away

Liborio Efrain Hinojosa, Sr., better known to his friends as “Libo,” 83, entered into eternal rest on February 6, 2021 at his McAllen residence.
Hinojosa is best known for being a leader in public service, and for leading his father’s family business H&H Meat Packing Company as an excellent role model proving minority owned companies could supply the federal government with quality goods and services while successfully competing in the open market.
Libo took over his father’s business in 1976 after his passing.
According to Hinojosa’s obituary, he was hardworking, humble and he began working at H&H Meat Packing Company at a very young age. He would go into work before and after school and around his extra-curricular activities. The family owned business provided jobs to several hundred people in the Mid Valley and put meat on tables across the state of Texas.
Public service was always important to Hinojosa, and his civic contributions and participation were extensive. He held positions on the Mercedes School Board, served on the Mercedes City Commission, and was Mayor in the early seventies.
According to his obituary, Libo worked hard to make a difference, not just for the citizens of Mercedes, but for the Rio Grande Valley and Texas.
