EXTRAVAGANT LADY

Part One of Two

     It was Tuesday afternoon when I got tha call from my good friend Julian Valdez. Julian has a television program that is seen Sunday mornings on Fox TV; it is also seen on Channel 67.1 The show is called ‘AQUI ENTRE NOSOTROS’ and goes on the air at 11 a.m. Because of all the work that goes into taping a TV show, they tape on Tuesday night, then they edit the show so it can be seen on Sunday morning.     

     At any rate, Julian wanted me to meet some guests that would be taping that night for the Sunday morning show, and I agreed to go and see them.

     The show is taped weekly in Donna, Texas at the Valdez Ranch. The studio for taping is inside the soon to be famous 800 KLUB. The show caters to musicians who are not that well known; musicians who have a lot of talent, but little recognition. The show gives the bands publicity and promotes them, so that many can see the talent of this groups. Besides having musical groups on his show, Julian Valdez also invites civic leaders, elected officials, and professional people to educate and inform the public.

     On Tuesday night, there at the taping of the TV show, ‘AQUI ENTRE NOSOTOS’ I had the pleasure of meeting several distinguished people. Among the guests that were there that night, I met a charming lady with a profession which I think is very, unique. 

     When Julian introduced the lady to me, the lady says to me with a gracious charming smile, “I finally get to meet DUKE MARTELL.” In my DUKE WAYNE voice, I replied, “Well now mam, I do believe you’ve got the advantage.” Then she told me that Julian, our mutual friend, had mentioned my name more than several times, on different occasions. Julian looked at me and said, “I told her that you were a writer, you had written a book, and that you write a weekly newspaper column. 

     Then Julian excused himself, so we could talk. The lady then told me about what she did and she also told me that she was known by many as the ‘Moon Girl’. With no disrespect intended, I just laughed. I guess it seemed kind of funny at tha time. But for some reason, it wasn’t funny to her. When I humbly apologized, she smiled and told me it was OK. 

     “I am very impressed, and DUKE MARTELL don’t get impressed very easy.” I told her. “As a matter of fact, it’s the first time I have ever met someone with your type of talent. Perhaps I should say you have what is known as a ‘gift’.” 

     The lady was born with this this gift and she does what she does in a professional manner. That night I told her, “I think the word is ‘extravagant’. In all sincerity, I think you are an extravagant lady.” That night my new friend and I talked for a while, as we all enjoyed a delicious bar-b-que meal, which was provided for all tha guests by Julian and his father.

     Just before I left the TV studio, I told her I wanted to learn more about what she did. Then I asked her if she  would like to be in my weekly column in The Mercedes Enterprise. Then I gave the lady a copy of our most recent issue and told her a little bit about The Enterprise. She told me she wanted to be in the newspaper, and we agreed to meet for lunch at Los Amigos Restaurant in a La Feria, Texas. 

     The next day as agreed, I met with my friend Sarah Garcia, at Los Amigos Restaurant in La Feria. SALUDOS to Mari the owner and also to Sarai the manager.

     We had a good long talk, but due to my column space, I can’t write everything we discussed. However, I would like to say The ‘Moon Girl’ is a medium paranormal investigator, a writer producer, and also a talented actress. And we also took some photos, so my loyal readers can see that DUKE MARTELL finally met the ‘Moon Girl’.
