City receives over $3 million
Federal funds to help town infrastructure needs, Mercedes School District
Staff Report
Congressman Vicente Gonzalez brought a large check to Mercedes City Hall recently and dropped it off to city leaders to help the city make improvements around town.
The funds the City of Mercedes received are part of the American Rescue Plan. The check was written out for over $3 million.
According to city officials, the city will use the money to help their infrastructure, expand broadband services, drainage improvements, and its school district.
One of the buildings the city expects to use part of the funds for is the Mercedes Police Department located downtown on Ohio Avenue. It has not been in use because of mold issues within the building.
Mercedes Mayor Oscar Montoya said projects would be getting under way pretty soon.
