INDIVIDUAL TICKETS FOR UTRGV BASEBALL GAME VS. TEXAS NOW ON SALE
March 1, 2022
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that individual tickets for the home baseball game on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. against Texas, currently the #1 team in the nation, are now on sale and can be purchased at UTRGVTickets.com.
Tickets for the Texas game cost the same amount as any other game – $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens (ages 65+) and current UTRGV faculty and staff, and $5 for children (ages 17 and under). Groups of 10 or more can get discounted tickets for $7 each.
Current UTRGV students get in free and need only show their UTRGV student ID at the gate on game day.
This is the first time Texas has visited the Rio Grande Valley since a 1971 series during which legacy institution Pan American University took three out of four. Pan American later swept Texas in the NCAA District Championships to secure a berth in the College World Series.
“We are certainly excited to host Texas and we are excited for our fans to get the opportunity to witness history. With that said, we have kept all ticket prices the same and want the entire Valley to be able to be part of this special night,” UTRGV Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque said. “Our fans have been tremendous supporters of our athletic program, particularly baseball, with more than 1,300 ticket packages sold, which is a record. Bringing this game to our fans is our way of saying thank for you for supporting our student-athletes and helping us to #RallyTheValley.”
UTRGV is expecting to set multiple attendance records for this game. Currently, the largest home crowd in program history is 4,900 for a game against Arizona in 1976 at Jody Ramsey Stadium. The largest crowd at UTRGV Baseball Stadium is 3,604 for a game against Texas State on Feb. 1, 2003.
Since 1999, the largest known crowd to see a game between UTRGV and Texas is 5,828 in Austin.
UTRGV has already sold more than 1,300 tickets for this game as tickets are included with all season ticket and mini plans.
UTRGV’s fan base came out in full force for opening weekend, as 2,418 fans watched Friday’s opening night win over George Washington, the program’s second-largest crowd ever for a game at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. In total, UTRGV welcomed 4,553 fans for the three-game series, their most through three home games since Feb. 1-2, 2003, when 5,238 fans watched the Texas State game and a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner.
Season tickets, mini plans and single-game tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at UTRGVTickets.com or by contacting the UTRGV Ticket Sales and Operations team of Seth Jones (956-665-3877) and Eddie Galvan (956-665-3415) over the phone or through email at tickets@utrgv.edu.
This is the fifth year in a row that UTRGV is hosting a Big 12 opponent after taking two out of three from Baylor to start the 2021 season, splitting a four-game series with Kansas State to open the 2020 season, taking one out of three from No. 16 Oklahoma State to open 2019, and hosting Texas Tech in 2018.
