Mercedes High School basketball players David Clower and Joaquin Gonzales are coming off two successful national basketball tournaments. As members of the McAllen Ballers travel team, the Tigers duo helped the team to a championship at the San Antonio Spurs AAS Nationals Tournament where they went 7-0 against the competition and were awarded championship rings and competed on the Spurs home court at the  AT&T Center. 

Next week, they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then Las Vegas to challenge the best basketball players and teams from the country. The opportunity gives Clower, Gonzales  and the Ballers Basketball team the opportunity to get noticed by college coaches and  basketball recruiters from many Division I NCAA basketball programs from across the country.

The mission of McAllen Ballers Boys Basketball Program to keep kids off the streets and provide an opportunity for them to learn and enjoy the game of basketball in a safe, supervised, and positive environment. Our goal is to teach young athletes respect for themselves, their peers and their community by instilling a code of ethics built on honesty, responsibility and teamwork. We have unprecedented determination and intensity to strive to be the best at everything we do on the court, in the classroom, and in everyday life. Together, our players, families and volunteers work with steadfast spirit to ensure a safe and disciplined environment so every child can reach their full potential and help guide them on a life path for success. The McAllen ballers are a 501 c nonprofit, and every donation is 100% tax-deductible. We are raising money for upcoming trips to Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Las Vegas. The team has gone up against teams associated with Former NBA players TJ Ford, John Lucas and current NBA players Blake Griffin, RJ Hampton and Buddy Hield.
