Meet Leah Adame, Mercedes High Volleyball Player of the Week Q&A

The Mercedes Enterprise caught up with Leah Adame, and here is what she had to say about herself, the volleyball team and her future goals.

Q: Name:

A: Leah Adame, Junior

Q: Position

A: Outside hitter

Q: What’s your goal for the team this season?

A: To make the playoffs & to grow better not only individually in the sport but as a team. 

Q:What did you do in the off-season to prepare for this season?

A: A lot of conditioning & putting in the extra work behind the scenes.

Q:Is there a team you look forward to playing this season, why?

A:I look forward to playing Brownsville Vets because for the past 2 years they always win the district trophy & I feel we can compete with them this year.

Q:What’s your best memory as a Tiger  volleyball player?

A: My best memory has to be my freshman year when we would have team bonding. We would go out to the old field on the track & play kick ball & everyone would get competitive.

Q:What are your personal goals for this season?

A: First team All District, make the playoffs, win District, & Offensive Player of the Year.

Q:Finish this sentence: Ten years from now I hope to be…?

A: a pediatrician living in a nice house.

Q:Who is the biggest jokester on the team? What makes this person so funny?

A: DeíAsia Brown, she always makes jokes on & off the court. 

Q:What is one thing you love most about Mercedes? A: How small Mercedes is & how much better it is when we are able to achieve something considering being a small town.

Q:Describe how you started getting into volleyball?

A: It really all started when I would play at the Boys & Girls Club here in Mercedes. I remember watching college volleyball and saying ìI wanna learn how to hit & serve like that.î When I would watch the high school play I would say ì I want to be like them.î And here I am a three year varsity player, & making little me proud is all I care about. 

Q:What is your favorite part about being a Tigers student-athlete?

A:My favorite part about being a Tiger student-athlete is how the community comes together to watch the games. The excitement & energy in the room is really a benefit. 

Q: What is your Favorite school subject? 

A: Math 

Q: Favorite food?

A: Fries

A: UCLA, Baylor, or UT
