TYFA Tigers ranked No. 1
The Mercedes Tigers TYFA Rookies football team has options, and its worrying opponents in the region and up State.
Head Coach Rick Chapa said the team is ranked No.1 in the State in 9U division.
“The rankings change every week, it goes by a point system and everybody had lost,” Chapa said. “We’re climbing up the rankings. Now were at a 2-0 start and the boys are working real hard.”
This week, the Rookies travel to Donna to play the Donna Rebels on Saturday.
After preparing all summer with practice and strength and conditioning, the Tigers are better than before.
Last season they nearly picked up two wins, and this year they have transformed into a winning team that can run the ball, pass and get to the end zone.
“On the offensive side we got three running backs rotating,” Coach said. “They called a touchdown back and on the next play they made it look easy. We scored twice. We don’t see anyone standing in our way. We play too hard since the Spring. Last season we were 0-8 this season we will be 8-0 and we will win District.”
