Relocating To Mercedes Pays Off For Paint Services Company

Arturo Leon set up his powder coating and sandblasting business in south Pharr in 2015 and came to realize he needed a more centrally located city to reach more of the Rio Grande Valley.
Leon’s search would bring him to Mercedes and the city’s Light Industrial Park along Expressway 83. It is the only industrial park in the Valley, Leon noted, that is located right along the expressway. The fast access and much improved access to his clients in Cameron County convinced Leon to make the move to Mercedes in April 2022.
It’s a move that has paid off for AB Powder Coating & Sandblasting. Leon says his company’s sales and revenues have exceeded expectations since moving to Mercedes. The company’s account base has grown with new customers from every part of the Valley. It’s a location Leon’s customers can easily access from whatever direction they’re traveling.
“By moving to Mercedes, we’ve seen more growth than we had before,’’ Leon said. “We had a record year last year. We’re very happy to be here in Mercedes.’’
It’s at the AB facility at the industrial park where a range of specialized painting services are offered. There’s powder coating which utilizes an electrostatic process and heat to create tough and impact resistant coating on a variety of surfaces from industrial components to auto parts to fencing. Sand blasting is another service offered, which is a method to clean metal and leaves surfaces ready to paint.
A look at AB’s Facebook photo gallery features the diversity of surfaces, objects and colors Leon’s company offers. It’s highly specialized painting work and it’s all done in Mercedes, the place to be to reach customers across the RGV.
“We have so much visibility here that we didn’t have in Pharr where we were hidden away,’’ Leon said. “It’s great to be here, not only the great location, but to also be in a community that’s growing.’’
