Jacob Howell looked to his family history and immediately felt it was time for him to offer his leadership to the City he loves just as his great-great-grand father had during the dawn of the city of Mercedes.
“My grandfather used to do a lot for Mercedes,” Jacob said. “It’s in my blood to help the city.”
His Great-Great-Grandfather Howell was active in Mercedes as a city leader in 1916 and on.
“My uncle, my dad and along the way Mercedes have always had Howell’s to help this community,” Jacob said. “Now I’m looking to give my part to help the community just as my family has over the generations.”
His father Eddie Howell Sr., also an educator and political leader in Mercedes is another reason Jacob said he found his calling to enter city politics.
Currently, Jacob is an educator at Mercedes High School and is a coach for various athletic teams at Mercedes High School.
Jacob is challenging incumbent Leo Villarreal for Mercedes City Commissioner Place 1.
And over the course of the campaign Jacob has been vocal in speaking about his ideas and issues the City is facing.
“When I’m on the Commission I’m going to push for a lot of local business, and working together on the Commission.” Jacob said. “I’m all about local business and I want to take the bull by the horn to help this community.”
