Mejia first ran for city office in 2012, and has not stopped asking the voters to elect him since.
“I run because I have a passion to serve,” Mejia said. “God gave me a call, and gave me a vision for the City of Mercedes.”
Mejia, 69, is a local appliance service business owner.
“The City should be run like a business,” Mejia said. “It’s in the business of serving. It serves the people.”
Mejia has seen a number of candidates run for office over the years.
“A lot of people admire me for not quitting,” Mejia said about his campaign for office.
Mejia’s Campaign Manager Beto Garcia beleives his candidate is the right choice for the City.
Candidates also running for Mercedes City Commission Place 3 are Ruben Guajardo, Joe Martinez, David Garza, Miguel Loya and Laura Alvarado.
“He has a platform that will help Mercedes grow,” Garcia said. “And it will help Mercedes with the problems its facing now. I’ve known Ramon all my life. He’s a man of his word and a honest man. He’s a strong candidate. I know Ramon can be a better commissioner.”
Mejia says to forget the past and move forward, and to revitalize downtown business corridor to help attract business.
“Mercedes will grow whether we like it or not,” Mejia said. “We need to be prepared. I will work to bring more business, more jobs and beautify the City. I make no promise, I promise to do what is right, what is fair and what is Justice.”
