BROWNSVILLE — The Lady Tigers found themselves down by two points with five seconds left in regulation, and they had the ball.

The score was 35-33 and Brownsville Pace had the upper hand.

The game had already seen multiple lead changes, and the Lady Tigers had one last chance to win or force overtime.

The Lady Tigers inbounded the ball, moved passed center court and passed to Sophomore Leah Adame who slashed into the paint and let a tear drop lay up fly for a chance to tie the game.

Sophomore Guard Randi Lara gabbed the Adame miss on the right side and shoot a quick jump shot. Her attempt raddled between the ring of the hoop and fell short to the left side.

And with time burning down to the last second Senior Guard Cerina Limas came up with the rebound and pulled the trigger. Her shot bounced high off the glass, but it was no good.

The Lady Vikings would go on to celebrate the home win 35-33.

The contest between the Lady Tigers (16-14), (4-4) and Lady Vikings (13-16), (4-4) was a back and fourth slug fest as each team fought for the District 32-5A win converting down low, on the fast break and from around three point land.

Heading into the halftime the Lady Tigers carried a one point lead after Senior Point Guard Danielle Barroso converted on fast break left hand lay up and on the next offensive attack connecting from three point land.

To open the second half Tigers Leah Adame tided the game at 19 -19 after Brownsville Pace converted for two.

On the next play on defense Adame picked up a big rebound and took off to the other end to finish with a coast -to- coast lay up to take back the lead 19-21.

The Lady Tigers continued their hard defensive stance as they stopped the Vikings on a series of possessions.

Pace had a steal wall in Ashley Gonzalez who ended the game with five blocked shots in the paint making it difficult for the Tigers to convert on easy shots around the basket.

Also scoring down the stretch for the Lady Tigers to help keep the game close were Cerina Limas converting on a layup to tie the game at 26, and Jaymie Flores hit a three point shot to lift the Tigers to a one point 28-29 lead.
