HOUSTON – Graduate student Aviana Goode broke the program record in the 60-meter hurdles to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field teams during the indoor season opener on Saturday at the FasTrak Collegiate Challenge at Houston’s Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Goode finished in a time of 8.78 in both the preliminary and finals races, earning sixth place. She is the only woman in UTRGV history to break nine seconds in the event. Goode also tied for the program’s sixth-best women’s high jump mark by clearing 1.62 meters in an eighth-place finish. She brought home third place in the long jump with a mark of 5.68 meters.

Freshman Jermarrion Stewart tied for the fastest qualifying time in the men’s 60-meter dash opening race, running a 6.98.
