Q&A WITH RGVLS PARTICIPANT LISA OLIVAREZ , WESLACO HIGH, 9TH GRADE

The Mercedes Enterprise caught up with a number of RGVLS participant Lisa Olivarez heading to the competition to show off her work with his animal. Here is what she had to say:
Q: What club are you a member of?
A: Weslaco FFA
Q: What will you be presenting at RGVLS?
A: A market hog and a photography project.
Q: What is your animal’s name and breed?
A: Waffles and a light cross
Q: Why do you like presenting at RGVLS?
A: It’s a good experience to learn and just have fun with a animal. Having the bond with your animal is something that can never be forgotten.
Q: Tell us about your first time presenting at RGVLS?
A: My first year was in 2019 and i entered a photography project. I placed first in my division and earned $50 off of my project.
Q: What is your best memory of RGVLS over the years?
Going to the show grounds and having fun with my friends and family.
Q: Have you been successful at RGVLS before, or what is your goal for this year’s competition?
A: I have been successful at RGVLS before and my goals for this year are to get top 6 for my market hog and place in my photography division.
Q: What is it like for you when you lead your animal or show your project in front of the judges?
A: It’s fun but it’s also makes me nervous cause I don’t wanna mess up
Q: What preparation did you put or work on with your animal or project to get ready for RGVLS?
A: For my market hog I walk her 20-30 mins per day so she gets the exercise and the training. For my photography project I just take pictures and whichever one i think it the best I enter that.

A: I enjoy being around animals.
Q: Tell us about your first time presenting at RGVLS?
A: I showed a lamb and felt nervous but excited
Q: What is your best memory of RGVLS over the years?
A: Winning reserve champion with my heifer
Q: Have you been successful at RGVLS before, or what is your goal for this year’s competition?
A: Yes l’ve been reserve champion and made the sale with my steers for the past 2 years
Q: What is it like for you when you lead your animal or show your project in front of the judges?
At first I’m nervous but then it goes away
Q: What preparation did you put or work on with your animal or project to get ready for RGVLS?
I walk my animal and practice sticking him for an hour at least 4 times a week.
