Q&A: RANDI LARA, MERCEDES LADY TIGERS SENIOR SHOOTING GUARD

The Mercedes Enterprise caught up with Senior  Shooting Guard Randi Lara to ask her about the basketball season and her game. Here’s what she had to say in the Meet the Tigers Q&A:

Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a varsity basketball player, and why?

A: I knew the moment I fell in love with the game. 

Q: What is your fondest memory of your experience on the team this season?

A: I don’t have a favorite, everyday spent with my teammates are the best.

Q: How excited are you about being a member of the basketball team?

A: Always blessed and hyped to be with my family. 

Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?                              

A: Play in summer league (Nemesis) with Regina and Jaymie.

Q: Who has influenced your play style the most?

A: My grandma, my grandpa, Raeanne and Arlan, Riley, My tias, my uncles, my cousin, baby Ren, my mom, my dad, my teammates, my coaches: Coach Rivas, Coach Mata, Coach Diaz, Coach Dave, Coach Marquez, I wouldn’t be who I am without anyone who has supported me.

Q: Who’s your favorite professional basketball player?

A: LeBron James 

Q: Who’s the greatest basketball player of all time?

A:  Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant

Q: What drew you to play basketball over other sports?

A: My dad introduced me to the game and I loved it with all my heart.

Q: What aspect of your game comes easy to you?

A: Being a lefty.

Q: What advice has the coach given you that you’ll always remember?

A: “I’m tough on you because you’re so good Randi… it’s okay to be selfish sometimes, look for your shot more and attack…don’t get discouraged when I get on you, it’s only because you’re so good and i want you to improve.” – Coach Marquez 

Q: If you could play any basketball player 1v1 who would it be?

A: Paige Bueckners

Q: Is there a particular significance to your jersey number?

A: Mom+Dad= 2, Raeanne+Riley+Me=3 My number represents my family.

Q: What tips would you give to someone going out for basketball?

A: Be humble. Play with heart. Give it your all when you step on the court. Play your game and lastly play with confidence.

Q: What team is considered your biggest rival, and why?

A: I would say Vets because they have always been a tough team.

Q: What is your most memorable shot?

A: Corner 3 against Weslaco and getting fouled.

Q: What is your favorite game day hype song?

A: Key Glock- Let’s Go

Q: Who would you pick as your all time greatest starting five?                                                             

A: Kobe, Lebron, MJ, Larry Bird, Shaq

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Pizza or Chicken Alfredo 

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: Economics 

Q: Who is your favorite college basketball team?

A: Uconn or South Carolina
