During a special meeting earlier this week, Mercedes commissioners voted to approve Mark Sossi’s contract as city attorney.

Sossi replaces Juan Molina, who commissioners accepted his letter of resignation last month. Molina had served as city attorney for more than ten years.

Sossi had served nine years as Brownsville’s city attorney before city commissioners there fired him in August 2017.

City leaders agreed to pay Sossi, $5,000 for 28 hours a month for legal council and $200 an hour for time exceeding his regular hours.
